Vicky has recently appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Start the Week alongside historian Annie Gray, food writer Angela Hui and host Adam Rutherford to discuss the state of the UK’s high streets.
Through reflecting on their own nostalgic experiences of the high street and drawing from their own work today, the guests discussed the long and varied history of shopping districts, the influence of migration on the high streets and the future of our town centres. Vicky drew from her own research and the book she co-authored, High Street: How our town centres can bounce back from the retail crisis to draw attention to some of the innovative work being done across the country to revitalise town centres. She believes that the high street is far more resilient than people think.
